Ask for Money, Not Opinions

October 17, 2025TenK Reps

You don’t validate ideas by asking what people think. You validate by asking what they’ll pay.

Most indie hackers waste weeks collecting opinions.
“Would you use this?” “Does this sound interesting?”
Everyone says yes — because opinions are free. Payment is not.

A real signal comes when someone feels the pinch. When they pause, think, and say, “Yeah, I’d pay for that.” That’s when validation begins. Every price point is a truth serum. It reveals how much value you’ve actually created.

Stop building new features hoping to “justify” the price. Flip it.
Use the price to expose whether your product is truly needed. If no one pays $9, it’s not that you priced too high — it’s that the pain isn’t sharp enough yet.

No survey, no landing page, no waitlist gives stronger data than a single real ask.

Pick one feature and assign it a price. DM one person today:
“Would you pay $X for this right now?”
Log yes or no. Repeat tomorrow with a new number.
